The Assignment
"As a group, research theories of social change. What do different theoretical perspectives say about how social change happens? Dig deep and look at a wide range of disciplines and fields of study such as sociology, political science, history, quantum physics, law, etc. Keep in mind that struggles for social justice and social change originate with oppressed communities, therefore be sure to look toward areas of study that foreground foreground issues and struggles of minoritized communities (e.g., women’s studies, ethnic studies, anti-colonial; studies, queer studies, environmental studies, etc.). Compare and contrast these theories. Evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. Visually map these theories. Visually capture things such as relationships, juxtapositions, tensions, convergences, shared origins, etc" (Osei-Kofi, 2008, Syllabus: Hg Ed 615C-1: Current issues in Higher Education: Social Justice and Social Change in American Higher Education).
